You can help Greg

Aerial image of Topeka
Greg Hasselman is in dire straits. He lives in the Topeka, Kansas area (aerial view at right via NASA) and is in need of a heart and liver transplant. He was born with a serious heart defect which has damaged other parts of his body in addition to his heart. Furthermore, doctors say that the double transplant he needs is very rare in that both organs must come from the same donor.

Furthermore, Greg's health insurance may only pay for one organ transplant and he needs two. Whether they pay for one or both, he and his wife will have to pay about $100,000 out of pocket which they do not have. If you can help with a contribution, a special fund has been set up for that purpose. The address is :

The Greg Hasselman Fund
c/o The Topeka Police Credit Union
320 S. Kansas, Suite 100
Topeka, KS 66603

You can also make a contribution to the Greg Hasselman Fund via a website set up for Greg by clicking here.

Hi there. This is Greg Hasselman I was Googling stuff, and I found your website. I got to looking closer and saw that you put me on your blog and I thought that was awesome. I wanted to write you and say that I really appreciate that. I read through some of your blog, and I think what you are doing to help people that need transplants and work with the government is extraordinary. So, thank you for that. We are a very young couple, my wife and I, and have been very overwhelmed with this whole situation. But thanks to our great Family, Friends, and Local Media we are feeling the love and support of the good people like yourself and the people here in Topeka. Through combined efforts, we have raised somewhere along the lines of $7500 which is a long way from our goal but yet so amazing that it puts tears in our eyes when we think about and see all the support. Thank you so much for putting me on your site. If you have any suggestions or questions, or if I can help in your mission and goals in any way, please feel free to contact me. Thanks again and God Bless.

Thank you so much for your note. It was wasn't that long ago that I was in your shoes needing a new heart. I know I have been tremendously > blessed, I do not take it for granted, either.

It was my pleasure to get your story out there so that more people would see it. The more exposure you get, the better your chances are for raising the funds you need. I pray that the Lord will supply the heart and liver that you need as well as the funds to pay for it.

My blog and website are some tools that I use to raise awareness for organ donation. My mission is to try to help others who need transplants get them just as I did. My goal is that one day everyone who needs a transplant is able to get one because donated organs are readily available. However, I know we as a country have a lot of work to do in order to get to that point.

I wish you the very best my friend. Please keep in touch and keep me updated on your progress. I particularly would love to know when you get your transplant so that I can share with my readers and we can all celebrate with you. Once you get your transplant, feel free to contact me with any questions you might have about meds, etc. I might be able to help.

I also hope you will continue to visit my sites. In fact, there's a spot on my blog below the "Labels" where you can enter your e-mail address and get my blog posts e-mailed to you.

May the Lord Bless and keep you my friend.

Your story is incredible and your courage and strength is something I notice all too well. I see it within myself. We are fighters, not by force, but by choice, and I want you to know you are an inspiration to many people, me included.

Although the journey is long with many bumps in the way with dark turns, blind corners, cliffs, and sharp edges, I know there is light at the end of this tunnel. There has to be. I want more for my family than for there not to be.

Thanks again. I will keep you posted on what the future holds.
